A man was killed and a boy left wounded after someone walked up to a vehicle they were in and opened fire as they sat at a stop light in El Monte Tuesday night.

The shooting occurred about 11 p.m. near the intersection of Garvey and Durfee avenues, according to a Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department news release.

The shooting victims were in the back seat of the car, which was also occupied by two women. One of the women was driving and the other was in the front passenger seat, according to the Sheriff’s Department.

While the four were stopped at a red light they got into an argument with someone in another vehicle who pulled up next to them.

“The suspect, described as a male Hispanic, exited his vehicle with a fire arm and shot into the rear seat of the victim’s vehicle,” Sheriff’s Department Lt. Rodney Moore said.

After the shooting, the gunman got back in his vehicle and fled the scene.

Both rear passengers were hit by gunfire and driven in the vehicle to an area hospital, where the man was pronounced dead.

The boy was listed in stable condition, according to the Sheriff’s Department.

The two women were not injured in the shooting.

The relationship between the victims was not immediately known.

The gunman fled in a gray compact sedan in an unknown direction.

Anyone with information was asked to contact the Sheriff’s Department at 323-890-5500. Anyone wishing to remain anonymous can call Crime Stoppers at 800-222-TIPS (8477).

Apparent Road-Rage Crash in Santa Clarita Captured on Cellphone Video

An apparent road-rage crash involving a motorcyclist and the driver of a sedan was captured on cellphone video Wednesday morning on the 14 Freeway in Santa Clarita.

The crash was reported about 5:49 a.m. Wednesday on the southbound side of the 14 Freeway near Newhall Avenue in Santa Clarita, California Highway Patrol Officer Bond said.

Tim Morrison and Chris Traber, who shot the video, were on their way to work when they say the driver of the silver sedan cut in front of the motorcyclist.

The incident continued to escalate between the two motorists so Traber decided to start recording on his cellphone.

The video shows the motorcyclist apparently kicking the side of the sedan, which then swerves into the motorcycle.

The motorcyclist manages to avoid crashing but the driver of the sedan loses control and then hits the median before traveling into traffic and crashing into a white Chevrolet Avalanche.

The Avalanche ends up on its roof as a result of the crash.

One person was taken to a local hospital, said Bond.

Morrison said an officer at the scene gave him an update on the Avalanche driver’s condition.

“Pretty intense, so I’m just glad that the guy’s OK. The officer told me yesterday that he seems to be OK,” Morrison said.

The motorcyclist did not appear to stop following the crash.

Authorities are investigating the incident as a possible hit-and-run, Bond said.

A man who stopped at a Riverside gas station to put air in the tires of his bike was ambushed and fatally shot Sunday night, according to a witness.

Police received several calls about 9:19 p.m. reporting a shooting had just occurred behind a gas station located in the 7400 block of Indiana Avenue, the Riverside Police Department stated in a news release.

Responding officers found the victim, who has not been identified, suffering from several gunshot wounds.

He was taken by ambulance to a local hospital, where he later died from his injuries, according to the Police Department.

A witness told KTLA the victim was putting air in his bike’s tires when he was ambushed by a gunman who got out of a car.

It was unclear if the shooter got back into the vehicle or fled on foot after the shooting, Lt. Dwayne May said.

No weapon was recovered at the scene and no description of the gunman or the vehicle was immediately available.

Detectives are hoping surveillance video from the store will provide further details about the shooting.

A social media group reported officers were involved in the shooting, but police say that is not the case.

“Unfortunately a Facebook community group or page reported falsely that this was a fatal officer-involved shooting by Riverside police,” Officer Ryan Railsback said. “None of our officers fired their weapons for any reason while here.”

The location where the shooting took place was described as a well-known gang area but it was unclear if the shooting was gang related, May said.

Anyone with information was asked to call the Police Department at 951-353-7213 or 951-353-7103.

Uber Driver Took Passenger Into Motel Room in the Valley, Sexually Assaulted Her: LAPD

A North Hollywood Uber driver suspected of sexually assaulting an unconscious 24-year-old passenger has been arrested, and investigators think he may have more victims.

The arrest of Alaric Spence, 46, was announced at Los Angeles Police Department headquarters on Monday afternoon.

The 24-year-old victim from L.A. was taking an Uber from downtown Los Angeles to Hollywood, but she fell unconscious during the 3 a.m. trip on Friday, June 23, possibly due to alcohol intoxication, Hayes said.

Spence allegedly drove the victim to a motel room on Lankershim Boulevard where he sexually assaulted her and left, according to Capt. William Hayes, the commanding officer of LAPD’s Robbery-Homicide Division, which handles high-profile cases.

The victim woke up in the motel room later that morning and didn’t know where she was. She called police immediately, Hayes said.

Spence was taken into custody that evening and is being held on $1 million bail, inmate records indicate. Surveillance video shows him taking the victim into the motel, the captain said. Evidence was found at his residence after a search warrant was served, according to an LAPD news release

Police provided a photograph of the suspect because they think he may have sexually assaulted other victims. Spence is described as a black man, 5 feet 11 inches tall and 225 pounds.

“It doesn’t seem feasible that this would be the first time,” Hayes said. “He went to the hotel, rented a room, and then carried her from his car into the room, where he assaulted her. To do something that brazen … we would believe it’s something he’s done before.”

The victim and investigators do not think she was drugged by the suspect.

There are no reports of similar crimes, the captain said, noting that many sex assault victims do not report being attacked.

As an Uber driver, Spence drives a 2015 silver four-door Nissan Sentra with license plate No. 7XUX293. He told police he’s been driving for the ride-hailing service for about six months, the captain said.

Spence has five felony convictions for possession of narcotics for sale in L.A., Ventura and Sacramento counties, Hayes said.

Spence was arrested on suspicion of kidnapping to commit sexual assault. The case is being presented to prosecutors for the consideration of charges.

Uber has been “extremely cooperative,” the captain said.

Anyone with information about additional victims is asked to call Robbery-Homicide Division Special Assault Section Detective Carla Zuniga at 213-486-6910. After-hours calls can be made to 877-527-3247, and anonymous tips can be made at 800-222-8477.

Police are searching for two men who crashed a Lamborghini into a parked car early Thursday morning in West Hollywood and then fled the scene.

The crash occurred just after midnight near the intersection of Romaine Street and North Genesee Avenue, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Sgt. N. Rios said.

A witness told investigators the Lamborghini was traveling eastbound on Romaine when the driver lost control and hit a parked car.

The impact pushed the parked car into two other vehicles, Rios said.

Video also showed damage to an apartment building parking structure.

“It would seem this Lamborghini was racing with a blue Bentley,” Alex Gardels, who lives in the area, said.

Two men were seen getting out of the Lamborghini and fleeing the scene, Rios said.

A witness told police they saw the men get into the Bentley before it drove away.

No description of the men was immediately available.

A 17-year-old boy suspected of fatally shooting a man he shared an apartment with in Pomona was arrested Monday morning.

Police responded to the 100 block of West Second Avenue after they received a call from the teen about 12:06 a.m., a news release from the Pomona Police Department stated.

Officers arrived and found the victim, a man who has not been identified, suffering from at least one gunshot wound inside the apartment. The victim died at the scene.

Officers first detained, then arrested the 17-year-old who reported the shooting, Lt. Marcus Perez said.

The relationship between the teen and the victim, who shared the apartment together, was unknown, Perez said.

Two other people were inside the home at the time of the shooting, an investigator at the scene told KTLA.

Authorities are talking to the witnesses and the suspected gunman to determine a possible motive and find out if there were any prior problems between the two.

The victim was possibly in his 70s and a weapon has been recovered at the scene, according to the investigator.

Anyone with information was asked to call the Police Department at 909-620-2085.

A man and woman suspected of using a sawed-off shotgun in several robberies around the Los Angeles area Wednesday night were taken into custody following a pursuit into the City of Orange.

Authorities were informed of several robberies occurring in the Hollywood, East Hollywood, Olympic and Central areas and began to search for a man and a woman driving a black Prius, Los Angeles Police Department Lt. German Hurtado said.

The two are suspected in at least seven robberies in the area, Hurtado said.

“They were street robberies. The male actually was the passenger of the vehicle. He’d get out, point a sawed-off shotgun at the victims, rob them for their property and get back in the car,” Hurtado said.

An officer in the area spotted the Prius and attempted a traffic stop, but the driver continued onto the southbound 5 Freeway, Hurtado said.

Authorities pursued the vehicle in the City of Orange where the vehicle crashed near the intersection of West Metropolitan Drive and South Lewis Street.

Both the driver and passenger were taken into custody and expected to be arrested on suspicion of robbery, Hurtado said.

Several stolen items were found in the car, however investigators did not find the gun, Hurtado said.

“We believe they might have thrown it out on the freeway, or somewhere while they got off the freeway,” Hurtado said.

Investigators planned to use gun dogs that can detect the scent of gun powder to help locate the weapon, Hurtado said.

A 49-year-old Pasadena man convicted of killing the mother of his two children has been sentenced to 26 years to life in prison, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office said Wednesday.

Jose Roberto Turner’s sentencing took place Tuesday, less than a month after he was found guilty of first-degree murder in the domestic-violence killing of 31-year-old LaJoya McCoy.

Turner stabbed and strangled McCoy on June 10, 2015, the DA’s office said, citing evidence presented during the trial. A rope or a cord was used as a deadly weapon.

McCoy’s body was found in her parked car about a mile away from her home in Monrovia six days later, after a family member reported her missing, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said at the time.

Signs of foul play were found in the victim’s home during the investigation.

Turner had threatened McCoy, his ex-girlfriend, over child custody issues prior to the murder, according to prosecutors.

A suspected drunken driver caused a multi-vehicle crash that left a woman dead and several others injured in Winnetka early Thursday morning, police said.

The three-car collision occurred just after 2 a.m. in the 20700 block of Roscoe Boulevard, Los Angeles Fire Department spokeswoman Margaret Stewart stated.

Three people in a Dodge Challenger were speeding and lost control when they hit a Subaru, which then struck a third vehicle, Los Angeles Police Department Capt. Andy Neiman said.

The third vehicle, being driven by a woman in her 20s, then struck a light pole, Neiman said.

The woman died at the scene.

The driver of the Dodge, described only as a male, was in critical condition, Neiman said.

Both of the passengers in the Dodge were in serious condition and had to be extricated as the car was on fire, Neiman said.

The driver of the Subaru was not seriously injured in the crash.

The cause of the crash was under investigation, but authorities believe alcohol or drugs may have been a factor.

A resident who heard the impact of the crash was not surprised the collision occurred here.

“People speed here all the time … people need to just slow down,” said Donald Parmar.

Roscoe Boulevard between Mason Avenue and De Soto Avenue was expected to be closed until at least 9 a.m. due to the investigation.

A woman has died and a man is in critical condition after a gunman opened fire on their car in Inglewood late Tuesday night.

Emergency crews were sent to treat two gunshot victims at a gas station near the intersection of South Ash Avenue and West Manchester Boulevard about 11:30 p.m.

The shooting occurred about a block away from the gas station, but the driver managed to get the vehicle to the location for help, Inglewood Police Department Lt. Neal Cochran said.

Video from the scene showed multiple bullet holes in the passenger side door of a white Chevrolet Monte Carlo.

Both victims, described as a 57-year-old man and a 44-year-old woman, were in critical condition and taken by ambulance to a local hospital, Cochran said.

The woman was pronounced dead at the hospital about 1:49 a.m., according to a Police Department spokesperson.

A Los Alamitos police captain and a city clerk have been identified as the man and woman who were found dead inside a Seal Beach apartment Monday morning following an hourslong standoff.

The bodies of 37-year-old Amanda Jensen and 49-year-old Rick Moore were discovered in the 100 block of Seventh Street around 2 a.m., more than seven hours after officers responded to a woman’s help call, according to the Seal Beach Police Department.

The line was disconnected at some point during the call, which was made around 7:20 p.m., police said in a news release. Witnesses reported hearing several gunshots.

Officers arriving at the scene surrounded the apartment building and evacuated nearby homes while a SWAT team responded to a possible barricade situation, authorities said.

Hours later, police entered the apartment and discovered the deceased man and woman.

A cause of death has not yet been released, but both had apparent gunshot wounds, police said.

Moore, a resident of Seal Beach, worked as a police captain for the City of Los Alamitos, the release stated. Jensen, of Garden Grove, worked as the city clerk for the city of Westminster.

Later on Monday, Westminster Mayor Tri Ta said he and other employees of the city were “deeply saddened” by Jensen’s sudden death.

“We are deeply saddened to learn about the tragic loss of our city clerk, Amanda Jensen,” Ta wrote in an email to KTLA. “She has been employed by the city of Westminster for the past 11 years, and was appointed as the city clerk in Oct. 2015.”

“She was a great employee,” Ta wrote. “She will be missed greatly.”

The relationship between Moore and Jensen was not immediately known, but several neighbors told KTLA that the two had just moved to the building four months ago, and had a number of domestic disputes during that time.

“You don’t think this can happen close to where you live, especially in a town like this. I grew up here all my life and it’s a real quiet town. It just goes to show you that domestic violence can happen anywhere,” said one man who did not want to be identified.

No additional details have been released about the incident, which remains under investigation.

Anyone with information is urged to call Seal Beach Police Detective Jeff Gibson at 562-799-4100 Ext. 1109.

A man who led police on a high-speed pursuit on the streets of Santa Ana died Sunday night in a crash that also left his 9-year-old daughter critically injured.

Police received a call at 10:22 p.m. reporting a man brandishing a firearm at a restaurant on McFadden Avenue, said Santa Ana Police Department Cpl. Anthony Bertagna.

Officers spotted a vehicle matching the description given by the caller at South Standard and East Warner avenues and attempted to stop it, but the driver fled, Bertagna said.

Police lost sight of the vehicle after speeds topped 80 mph as it traveled westbound on Warner Avenue, Bertagna said.

A short time later, officers came across the scene of a crash involving the same vehicle, which had apparently crashed into a light pole on Warner Avenue and then careened into a brick wall surrounding the back yard of a home in the 1700 block of West Pendleton Avenue.

The driver, later identified by police as 43-year-old Juan Rodriguez of Costa Mesa, died at the scene, Bertagna said.

Official also noticed a 9-year-old girl trapped in the back seat of the vehicle.

Orange County Fire Authority personnel at the scene rescued the girl from the vehicle, despite live wires “flopping around” at the scene, Bertagna said.

The girl was transported to Children’s Hospital Orange County in critical condition and was later listed as stable.

Inside the vehicle, investigators discovered $13,000 in cash, a loaded gun and half a pound to a pound of narcotics, Bertagna said.

The driver was wanted on three outstanding warrants for narcotics sales, Bertagna said.

Police believe an Anaheim teenager was driving while intoxicated when his car struck another vehicle in Anaheim on Sunday, killing one person and injuring another.

Anaheim resident Jorge Martinez, 18, was arrested on suspicion of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, felony DUI and driving without a license following the collision, which occurred around 3:15 a.m. in the 1500 block of Ball Road, according to a statement from the Anaheim Police Department.

Ball Road was closed in both directions between Walnut Street and Loara Street throughout the morning as officials canvassed the scene.

Investigators believe Martinez’s Nissan Maxima was traveling at a high rate of speed heading west on Ball Road from Walnut Street when he lost control of the vehicle.

The Maxima veered into oncoming traffic and hit a Toyota Camry that was turning into the driveway of an apartment complex on the south side of Ball Road, officials said.

The Camry’s occupant, a 34-year-old man who was driving, was declared dead at the scene. The man’s pregnant wife was at home with the couple’s young child at the time, according to police.

The passenger in Martinez’ car, a 17-year-old girl, was transported to a nearby hospital in stable condition, officers said.

The victims have not been identified.

Officers at the scene determined Martinez was under the influence of alcohol or drugs and detained him. Police are also looking into reports that he was involved in a street race prior to the collision.

Martinez was being held on $100,000 bail.

Case Against USC Student Accused of Raping Undergrad Tossed After Video Evidence Emerges

Prosecutors will no longer pursue a case against a USC student accused of raping a fellow undergraduate after a judge’s decision that there was not enough evidence to send the case to trial, the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office said Monday.

Charges will not be refiled against 20-year-old Armaan Karim Premjee, who was accused of sexually assaulting a 19-year-old student in her campus dorm on April 1, said Shiara Davila-Morales, a spokeswoman for the district attorney’s office. Premjee’s preliminary hearing was held in Los Angeles Superior Court last week.

Premjee was charged in May with rape by use of drugs and sexual penetration by a foreign object.

On Monday, Premjee’s attorney, Harland Braun, said the judge tossed out the case after the defense presented video evidence that showed consent.

Man Arrested on Suspicion of Arson After Video Emerges of Person Throwing Molotov Cocktail at Glendale Church

A 51-year-old man was arrested in connection with a fire that broke out early last month at a Glendale church, the Glendale Police Department said Wednesday.

San Pedro resident Donald Walter Maitz, a former congregant of Faith Center Church was taken into custody Sunday following an investigation into a July 6 fire at the parish, located on the 1600 block of South Glendale Avenue about a block up from Forest Lawn Memorial Park, officials said.

The fire was fortunately stopped before it caused much damage, but evidence suggests whoever started it was planning to create a bigger blaze, according to police.

Surveillance video captured at the scene shows a man throwing a Molotov cocktail onto church property, which is then set ablaze.

A Glendale Officer Sharon Kim, who was patrolling the area, caught sight of the flames and was able to put them out.

“The fire was kind of at the gas line, and there’s a lot of foliage in the area, so I wanted to put the fire out before it caused a big explosion,” she told KTLA. “I didn’t know if people were still inside the church.”

At the time, however, Kim was unaware it was intentionally set by someone who allegedly fled the scene once her patrol car arrived.

Investigators later uncovered a bag carrying additional Molotov cocktails, indicating the arsonist intended to start a much larger fire.

DNA evidence collected from the remaining devices led police to identify Maitz as the suspect.

Although detectives began investigating the incident as a hate crime as well as arson, once Maitz was connected to the crime officials discovered he was previously a member of the congregation and volunteer at the church before being banned because of unspecified inappropriate behavior. Investigators now believe a personal vendetta motivated the attack, rather than a generalized hatred of the church or its religion.

Led by pastor Melissa Scott, Faith Center is well-known for its televised sermons and has members worldwide.

Maitz has been charged with one count of arson and one count of use of a destruction device, according to police.

He was being held on $500,000 bail.

3 Injured in Stabbing During Soccer Game Brawl in Whittier; Suspect Still at Large

Three people were injured by stab wounds during a soccer match brawl on Sunday at El Camino High School in Whittier and the suspect is still at large, according to Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

About 20 to 30 people were involved in a fight that took place during a soccer game at the school, sheriff’s deputies said. The three injured people suffered superficial stab wounds but their current conditions are unknown, deputies said.

The man who stabbed three people is only described as wearing a black t-shirt at the time, and he is still at large, deputies said.

Adrian Marquez, a witness at the scene, said it was an adult soccer game that included people of all ages over 18. He said the fight started when a foul was called.

“The teams started arguing but then they calmed down,” Marquez said. “What got everything heated was when the coach — he punched one of the opposing players … and that’s when everyone got involved. Everybody — the whole teams. It was crazy.”

From there, even people on the sidelines joined in the fight, Marquez said. At some point, a person started stabbing people, he said.

“Man, why do you gotta bring a knife, you know?” Marquez said.

“Everybody came to have fun, you know?” he said. “It’s supposed to be friendly. We bring our families, our kids, just to have fun.”

Victims, Possible DUI Driver ID’d in Crash on 10 Freeway in Fontana That Killed 4

Officials identified the three family members and a good Samaritan who were on the side of the 10 Freeway in Fontana with a broken-down car when they were killed on Friday.

Two of the deceased were step-siblings Ailyan Miguel and Isaac Briseño, both 12, according to the California Highway Patrol. Their grandmother, 58-year-old Maria Luisa Rodriguez, was standing outside the family’s overheated Honda with the children at the time of the crash and was also killed.

The children’s mother, Maria Briseño, 39, was not harmed in the crash, though she was transported to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center because of her hysterical state that paramedics feared could turn into a heart attack.

All four were residents of La Puente. They had been driving to San Bernardino to spend part of the weekend with relatives, family members said.

A man who had stopped to help the family was also killed. His daughters identified him as Jose Prieto, 60.

“He was a person that loved God very much,” Monica Prieto said of her father. “He was always there to help somebody in need.”

A second daughter, Esperanza Garcia, echoed the sentiment, saying he “never thought about himself.”

Officials said they were issuing a warrant to conduct a blood test on Riverside resident Luis Sanchez, 64, who they suspect could have been driving under the influence when his Nissan Frontier slammed into the rear of the Briseños’ Honda around 12:35 p.m.

Sanchez told CHP officials he was on the way home from work and fell asleep, but footage from the scene showed a beer can wedged beneath the driver’s seat of his truck.

He was transported to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center to be treated for minor face and neck injuries, authorities said.

The Briseño family pulled their car over to the side of the eastbound 10 near Cherry Avenue after it became overheated. Spotting their trouble, a man driving a Toyota Tacoma also pulled over the help them out, stopping his truck in front of the sedan, according to the CHP.

The three adults were standing outside the vehicles when Sanchez’s Nissan slammed into the Honda, which the two children were inside of. The Honda was then pushed forward into the Tacoma.

Rodriguez, the two children and the Toyota driver were all pronounced dead at the scene.

Prior to the deadly crash, Briseño had called her husband and son to let them know that her car had broken down on the freeway; when they arrived, they found three of the four family members dead, CHP officials said.

Two fundraising pages have been set up to help the family with funeral expenses. Family members said they were from two sides of the family but the campaigns were united.

Prieto’s family has also set up a GoFundMe page to help cover funeral expenses. In total, the various pages have raised over $35,000 so far.

The family of the grandmother and two children killed also held a fundraiser at a family member’s home in Bloomington on Saturday.

“Just thinking about the kids … I don’t think there’s even words to explain how tough that would be on the parents,” Rocio Ramirez, an aunt of the two children, said.

Authorities are pushing forward with their investigation into whether alcohol played a role in the crash.

‘Documented Gang Member’ Fatally Shot His Estranged Wife; Accomplice Arrested: Montebello Police

Montebello police are looking for a “documented gang member” suspected of killing his estranged wife over the weekend, and a female alleged accomplice has been arrested.

Christopher Michael Diaz, 26, is believed to be armed and dangerous. Police are asking for help finding him.

Roxann Acosta, 28, was found killed just before 10 p.m. Sunday, according to a Montebello Police Department flier.

Officers were called to a report of shots fired in the 1200 block of West Victoria Avenue in Montebello, and they found the victim dead from a gunshot wound. Witnesses identified Diaz, Acosta’s husband of about a year, as the shooter, police Sgt. Marc Marty said.

A female suspected of being an accomplice has been arrested, Marty said. Her name was not being released.

She was killed in Diaz’s mother’s apartment, according to Marty. Diaz used an “unknown type firearm” to kill Acosta, who was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

A relative of Acosta told the San Gabriel Valley Tribune that the victim was 8 weeks pregnant and had filed for divorce.

Friends of Acosta at the scene of the shooting also said Acosta was 8 weeks pregnant, and said the victim leaves behind a daughter and two sons. Marty said investigators are waiting for the medical examiner to confirm if she was pregnant.

The estranged couple spent the day together and then a verbal argument led to the shooting, the sergeant said.

“We don’t have any idea why he killed her,” Marty said.

A vigil held for Acosta on Monday night was heavily attended by friends and family; candles, balloons and flowers were left outside the apartment building. “Rest in Peace Roxy” was spray-painted on the sidewalk.

Many friends recalled her warm smile, and Christina Franco, her co-worker at Homeboy Industries, said it lit up the entire workplace and was the first thing you noticed when you walked into the room.

“As beautiful as Roxy is on the outside is as beautiful as she was on the inside,” Franco told KTLA.

Another co-worker, Jimmy Campa, said Acosta was “a light at Homeboy Industries” and always “generous with her smile and her gift of friendship.”

Speaking at the vigil, Alicia Acosta, the victim’s mother, described her son-in-law as a “monster” and said she never trusted him.

“I always feared him,” she said. “That’s why he wasn’t welcome into the family.”

Diaz is described Hispanic, as 5 feet 5 inches tall and 145 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes.

He had an extensive arrest record, including for assault with a deadly weapon on a police officer, a Montebello police spokesman said. It’s not clear if Diaz was convicted.

Friends gathered Tuesday at the Montebello apartment building where Acosta died said they were in shock. They urged Diaz to turn himself in.

“He’s not going to get away with it. He should know that,” Marilyn Morones said. “I don’t know how a man could do that to a woman, and then with a baby in the stomach.”

Acosta loved Diaz but was trying to leave her husband, who was “obsessive” and “dangerous,” another friend, Tiff Noriega, said.

Friends at the vigil said Acosta had filed for divorce and wanted to move on, but Diaz didn’t want to.

A GoFundMe page has been set up to pay for Acosta’s funeral.

A 12-year-old girl was struck and killed when a man walked up to a home in Victorville Wednesday night and opened fire.

Deputies responded to a report of multiple shots fired in the 17000 block of Monaco Drive about 8:23 p.m., according to a news release from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department.

Witnesses told investigators they saw a man walking up to the home armed with a shotgun and then opening fire into the residence, Sheriff’s Department public information officer Jodi Miller said.

Video from the scene showed a front window of the home had been shattered.

Arriving deputies found 12-year-old Makiya Walls suffering from gunshot wounds and rushed her to a local hospital, the news release stated.

Despite life-saving measures, Walls died at the hospital just before 10 p.m.

Her first day of school would have been Thursday, family members said. She loved cheerleading and playing sports.

“Who would kill a little girl?” said the victim’s cousin, Kim White.

The shooter, described by the Sheriff’s Department only as a black man, may have fled in a white, possibly four-door sedan that witnesses saw speeding from the area.

It was unclear if the gunman knew the victim or her family.

An investigation into the shooting was ongoing, Miller said.
